 Lambert Fine Arts is pleased to present a new collection from international artist collective Gutbox titled GRID. Comprised of nine core members, Gutbox embraces the true nature of collaboration in which each piece of art is developed improvisationally by three or more artists without prior planning. Each artwork evolves from the creative reactions of one artist in dialog with the one preceding them and then the collective determines as a group when the piece has matured to completion. On Saturday, May 5th, visitors can witness this process as Gutbox installs their collaboration to encompass the entire gallery at Lambert Fine Arts in both a constructed and a metaphorical GRID. http://www.lambertfinearts.com/events/

Hibbleton Gallery and the Magoski Arts Colony will present ‘It Won’t Fit’, an exhibition of 2-D works in conjunction with a 3-D installation, that introduces New York based Gutbox Collective to the West Coast. This group’s mission is to create running narrative threads through collective participation. The members of Gutbox weave disjointed stories that don’t suffer the absolution of a beginning or an end. By incorporating panels that vary slightly in size and are under the influence of at least three members before completion, the group allows a film reel like format to take shape without giving way to a truly linear sequence. The result is a vivid display of painterly cooperation that meets naked trust and invention.

Gutbox debuted in New York City in the fall of 2010 at The Y Gallery. The incarnation that will take place at Hibbleton is a phase of Gutbox’s ongoing pursuit of constructivism within it’s own ranks and reaching outward to it’s audience from one location to the next, creating an ongoing narrative through it’s work that oscillates with those who participate.

Gutbox Members: Nick Dyball, John J. Hagan, Heather Hart, Jazz-minh Moore, Seth Mulvey, Ray Sell, Caroline Thaw, Ulrike Theusner, and Thomas Witte.

ein kleiner Frühlingsgruss aus dem verregneten Central Park...

in der Subway

Vorhin in der Subway habe ich diesen schwarzen Arbeiter gesehn, er hatte sein Arbeitsoutfit an und hat mit seinen grossen Händen ein winziges Buch festgehalten, ich glaube es war die Bibel. Sonst hatte er nichts an sich, nur er und die Bibel. Sie sah schon ganz abgewetzt aus, als würde er sie immer bei sich tragen. Immer wenn er zur Arbeit geht oder fährt, immer liest er die Bibel...Und dabei bewegen sich seine Lippen und er sitzt ganz aufrecht und er bekommt nichts mit um sich herum, nichtmal, das ich ihn fotografiert habe...Es ist dennoch verwaschen. Irgendwie fand ich es rührend, dass jemand so ein kleines abgewetztes Bibelbuch mit sich herumträgt.
